This week saw the announcement that yet another database has been hacked. This one held a whopping five million Gmail addresses and passwords. Most of the announcements also linked to a third-party site where you could check to see if your Gmail address was one of those hacked. I am always suspicious of these sites, because they could very easily be collecting all those email addresses for their own purposes.
Here, however, is a site that I trust, LassPass, that has a lookup tool not only for the newest Gmail leak, but for a handful of previous leaks as well. To find out if your Gmail password was among those hacked, check your Gmail address at LassPass.
Whether or not your Gmail address was included in the recent heist, here’s some advice on what to do next:
1) Change your Gmail password to a unique password you do not use anywhere else.
2) Add Google’s two-step authentication to your Google account so that even if your password is stolen, your account can not be accessed.
