Have you noticed on your Facebook wall that Aunt Susie likes a particular bank, or your BFF likes a certain brand of cat food? These sponsored posts are one of the ways Facebook makes money, and it’s one of the ways businesses promote themselves on Facebook.
The theory behind this type of native advertising is that we will pay more attention to an ad if the business is endorsed by a friend or family member.
But YOU have a choice in whether or not you allow businesses to use your endorsement in their Facebook advertising. I have opted out, because if I am being used in an advertisement I feel I should be paid as a spokesperson! Okay, since that’s not happening anytime soon, let me just tell you how you can opt out also.
Go to Facebook Settings, and find the Ads section on the left-hand side. Scroll down to Ads and Friends, and look for the dropdown selection box labeled “Pair my social actions with ads for.” Change it from “Friends” to “No one” and click Save Changes.
