Facebook Scrapbook

Last week, Facebook announced a new feature that allows kids under 13 to have a presence on Facebook managed by their parents. Called Scrapbook, it a new way to organize Facebook photos, much like an Album but with additional features.

It is common for parents to tag themselves or their spouse in photos of their kids. In fact, a Facebook poll concluded that 65% of American parents do this. This allows one’s friends and family to view the photos, while keeping the child’s name off of Facebook, but does not provide any structure to organize or manage your kids’ photos.

With Facebook Scrapbook, parents set up special kind of album that can be co-managed by a spouse, and resides alongside your other Facebook photo albums. To get started, go to your About section, visit the Family And Relationships tab. Now you’ll see options to start a scrapbook from scratch or make one for an existing child or pet!

When you child turns 13, there is a procedure for handing over the scrapbook for them. But I doubt many teens are going to want a whole library of baby pix associated with their new Facebook profile!
