Valentine’s Day is a great holiday for decorating as there are so many symbols and options for making it a fun, special, love filled day. The following are a few of the fun ideas for Valentine’s Day decorations:

Colors- red, white, pink. Color is one of the most important parts of decorating for Valentine’s Day, and sticking with the traditional color scheme seems to be your safest bet. The colors of red, white, and pink all have significance, which make them a great way to send messages of love. Red stands for passion, and fire in the love, or in other words a true, deep love. White stands for purity, meaning a love that is pure, or unblemished in the world. Pink is the lighter hearted affection, or joy that comes from love. When combined it is a powerful combination and expression.

Hearts- As Valentine’s Day is clearly the day of love, a heart is the perfect symbol to use in your decorating. For the low budget decorator, cut outs of several hearts taped around a room, on a car, window, etc. is a great option. The hearts can be simple, a cut out, or elaborate, 3-D, and embellished. Just be sure when decorating for the holiday that you include a wide variety of sizes, and plenty of hearts in your décor choices.

Cupids- Cupids are known as the angelic match makers, and they are said to carry a bow that can be shot at a person and infect them with love for the next person they see. This can be a fun way to decorate, especially if your love was love at first sight. So, utilize cupids, and their bows, and heart tipped arrows in your Valentine’s Day decorating scheme, and you can’t go wrong. It can be fun to line them up, and have arrows show into various items around the room.

Flowers- Flowers are more than just a traditional gift given by men to the women they love on Valentine’s Day, they also often hold significant meaning. Certain flowers, for example, are used for mourning, and portray love and hope for the afterlife. Others are symbols of pure love, true love, deep love, passionate love, etc. Carnations, roses, and tulips are all great flowers to decorate with when decorating a table, or a room for Valentine’s Day.

Balloons- A balloon is a fun decoration regardless of the occasion, and can be used well when decorating for Valentine’s Day. They can be used to show the colors of the day in a bold way, to form an arch or draw attention to an area, they come in shapes and various sizes, so they can be used to effectively add visual appeal and decoration to an otherwise dull room.

How you choose to decorate should be determined by the occasion. If it is for a candle lit dinner for two, candles, hearts, flowers and other romantic décor is more appropriate that balloons. However, if it is for a classroom party, then big heart cut outs, and balloons of various shapes can be perfect for setting the tone.
