You can make lion masks as an enrichment to the story of Daniel and the Lion’s den and they make for some great imaginary play with young children. There are several different ways you can make them, one of which is using a paper bag. This is just a regular grocery bag turned inside out with some holes cut out for the eyes, nose, and mouth if you want. The most fun part about this mask is the decorating. Kids can either paint or color the bag and when they’re done they can add the hair for the main. You can use ribbon which curls really well and makes the lion make look really cute, or you can use yarn which won’t curl but will give the lion a longer haired look. Another way to make a lion mask is using a paper plate, construction paper, pencils, glue, and a tongue depressor or unsharpened pencil. All you have to do is cut out the center of the plate so there is a place to see your face. Then glue the brown pieces of rectangular shaped paper around the circle like a lion’s mane. Then with your tongue depressor or pencil you can curl the ends of the paper to shape the face and look like a lion’s mane. They are really cute and very easy for young children to make.
