Model volcanoes have been made for a long time and are the old stand by for the school science fair. But many people are finding ways to go beyond the classic volcano model and have come up with new and innovative twists to the same theme. No matter what you are looking to accomplish with making a model volcano, there is an interesting and creative way for you to make one.
One of the most significant changes you can make to your model volcano probably doesn’t involve what shape it is or what it does, but rather what it is made out of. The standard material for many model volcanoes is play dough, but there are many other things you can use to make your model. Consider using plaster of Paris or some other similar type of plaster. This can make the model much more durable and is a good alternative especially if you want to make your volcano erupt more than just a few times. Some people choose to use newspaper as filler for their volcano and then cover it with play dough. But you can also use other materials on top of the newspaper like papier-mâche or even something as flashy as tin foil. No matter what you want your volcano to look like on the outside, just be creative with what you use. You also want to keep in mind how durable the material will be just in case you want to make it erupt more than once. A volcano made of paper or other material that will absorb liquids will not last for very many eruptions and can become very bogged down and heavy. If it absorbs too much it could even collapse, which could cause some serious problems.
Another fairly simple variation you can make is simply in the size of the model volcano. Some people are trying to make life sized volcanoes. And while many people think that this is impossible, they are using them in amusement parks. Now most people aren’t ever going to make volcanoes for amusement parks or for geological studies, there are still ways you can make a larger model volcano. If you want to make a very large model volcano, you are going to need a lot more material to complete it successfully and you will also have to think of new and innovative ways to cover it without it being too heavy or cumbersome. It will probably be necessary to assemble it in the place you will actually be erupting it too. Making a very small model volcano can also be a fun and exciting variation to the standard model volcano. Instead of using a 2 liter bottle of soda you can use a single serving or another container that would be even smaller. The container that holds the baking soda you will use in the eruption will be the main factor in the size of the volcano you make. If you make it too much smaller you will also want to make sure that you decrease the amount of ingredients you use for the lava solution, so that you don’t have too much energy in too small of a container as this could cause a real explosion.
No matter what variations you are going to try for your model volcano, whether it is a miniature one or one that is hot pink, you should still plan ahead and make sure that you have everything you need to execute it well. And perhaps the most important thing about varying the classic volcano model is to just have fun with what
