Kids love to be creative. Most children are naturally creative. They like to build things with their friends and with their mom and dad. Kids like colorful things and they love to explore. This is partly why crafts are a great activity for kids. They can learn and create new things and they can do it without too much difficulty. Because we would all like to encourage the creative side of our children, getting them to start working with crafts is a great idea. But what ideas can you use to get your children interested? Obviously the crafts your kids make should not take too much time. Children are not very patient and they need something that will hold their attention. With this in mind, think of crafts that will produce quick results. You should also think about the sorts of things your children like. Do they like animals? Most children do. If so, consider designing crafts that will conclude with some sort of animal or funny face. Do they have a favorite superhero or TV character? The sky is literally the limit when it comes to developing new craft ideas for children. So what are the good ideas for kid’s crafts?
1. Paper mache. Paper mache can be great because it is used to make all sorts of interesting shapes and creatures. Think of something the kids would be interested in. Would a planet be interesting? Would a superhero work? Don’t do anything that is too complicated, or that would take too much time. The first few steps might bore the kids as you shape the animal or superhero out of wire. However, when it comes to getting dirty and putting that newspaper on the wire, those kids will be begging for an opportunity. A good idea with paper mache would be for you to do certain parts of the project and to complete the paper mache over time. It will take some time to allow the newspaper to dry, so you might want to plan some sort of other activity in between. Once the newspaper has dried let the kids color the figure in whatever way they like. Part of the process of kid’s crafts is to allow them their own creative license.
2. Crazy paint. Although it might not sound like a craft, simply throwing paint on a canvas is another possibility for a craft. Some kids do not have the patience to carefully craft something. They need to express themselves in a more virile or physical way. Some kids also like the random instead of the regular and planned. Consider what kids will be making these crafts. Think of them as an active audience. Crazy paint is a good craft for kids who have a short attention span and who like to get dirty. Get a large piece of paper and role it out in an area that can get dirty. Do not do this in your kitchen or bedroom! Somewhere outside would be best. Then get some cheep paint. Find different colors, and hopefully bright ones. Allow the kids to splatter paint on the canvas in whatever way they might like. They can pore it on or they can splatter it with brushes. They can drip it on or hand paint with it.
These are just a few ideas for crafts with kids. Never limit yourself and remember that you can use almost any household item. Creating crafts for kids should not be expensive. It takes some creativity, but it is not too difficult to entertain and educate your children with great activities.
