Candy topiaries are fun to make and fun to give as gifts to others. Candy topiaries are also surprisingly affordable to make. Most of the materials needed to make a topiary are very inexpensive; it is the simple labor required to make these topiaries that makes them extraordinary. If you know how to use a glue gun, you can make a candy topiary.
Most topiary begin with the basic assembly of a base and Styrofoam balls (on which the candy will be affixed). Simply choose a plant pot or other base container, fill it with a Styrofoam block, insert a wooden towel into the center of the pot and then place a Styrofoam ball on top of the dowel. You can use more than one Styrofoam ball if you wish. The base of the topiary (inside of the pot where the Styrofoam is still showing) and around the Styrofoam ball are the places that you can cover or decorate.
Topiary Party Favors
Miniature candy topiaries make great party favors for a bridal shower, baby shower or any other party that you may be throwing. All of the instructions for making these party favors and the standard size topiaries are the same, just all of the materials are smaller. You can even use a large lollipop as the topiary portion instead of covering a whole ball with candy. Fill the miniature pot with chocolate cookie crumbs (it will look like dirt) and you have a cute decoration, treat and thank you gift.
