One of the hardest things about crafts is that some of them require a lot of adult help, but there are some out there that require a limited amount of help. It is these crafts that preschoolers love to do because it gives them that independent feeling. Here are some great craft ideas for preschoolers; you can also do them with children who are bit older.
Styrofoam & Drinking Straw Puppets
Materials
Clean Styrofoam trays – if you can find coilored trays they make for great puppets
Scissors
Drinking straws
Pens, gel pens, or markers
Tape
Googly eyes
Construction paper to make the details for the face
Glue stick
Instructions
- Go to http://www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/puppets/styrostraw/ to print out the template for the butterfly puppet or you can draw it freehand
- Clean a Styrofoam tray with warm water and detergent
- Use a pen and trace the template of the butterfly onto the Styrofoam tray or draw the butterfly outline yourself
- Cut out the butterfly
- For the details of the butterfly draw them with a pen or cut them out of construction paper and glue them to the Styrofoam butterfly
- Make sure to glue on your googly eyes
- Tape the back of your Styrofoam butterfly to the end of a drinking straw
