Whether you run a home day care, teach preschool or are just looking for something fun to do with your children one of the best things that you can do is to learn and create at the same time. This is actually rather easy to accomplish with crafts. The reason that it is so easy is because you can learn all about various things while you are making the craft. All you have to is begin a discussion about the butterflies and their habitat before you start on the crafts.
Here are some easy kid butterfly crafts that you can make with children from a variety of age groups.
Butterfly Crown
Materials
Pink construction paper
2 pipe cleaners, any color but white looks great
Pencil
Scissors
Tape
Tissue paper or Kleenex, any color combination
Thread, preferably white
Instructions
- Draw 4 butterflies on the construction or use a template to trace 4 butterflies onto the construction paper
- Cut the butterflies out of the construction paper
- Cut 2 or 3 strips of construction paper that are 4″ wide and as long as you can make them
- Tape the pieces end to end so that you make a really long piece
- Use it to measure the child’s head and trim off the excess paper, just make sure you don’t tape it yet
- Make tissue paper flowers and tape them to the front of the crown
- Tissue Paper Flowers
- Stack 4 squares of 4″x4″ squares of tissue paper on top of each other
- Fan (accordion) fold the tissue paper
- Tie tightly in the center with a piece of thread
- Separate the layers one at a time
- Roll a piece of scotch tape to use to attach the flower to the front of the crown
- Make a spring with the pipe cleaners by wrapping them around a pencil. Adults can get it started and let the children finish if needed
- Straighten out ½ inch of the top and bottom of the spring. This makes it easier to do the taping
- Tape a butterfly onto the top of each pipe cleaner
- Turn over and glue or tape the other butterflies to the back of the first two butterflies. The butterflies should be sandwiched around the pipe cleaners
- Tape both pipe cleaners to the long piece of construction paper so they are in the front or on the sides
- Tape the ends of the construction paper together to make a crown
- Put on the crown
