During the holiday season, decorating your home to share your love and joy during this time of year is important. You can purchase Christmas decorations from the store, or you can create your own Christmas decorations with the kids in a few hours. Spending a few minutes of your time with your kids during this busy time of year will mean a lot to them, especially if you spend time creating Christmas decorations. Here are some fun Christmas decorations that you can create with your kids:
Gingerbread House
The gingerbread house is one Christmas decoration that is enjoyed by all every year. Children love to get creative when they are helping with a craft project and giving them frosting and a bunch of candy and telling them to run wild is going to be one of the happiest moments of their lives. You can purchase a gingerbread house model from practically any store, but a fun way to create a gingerbread house is to build a small wooden one that you can clean and re-use each year. At the store, pick up gumdrops, M & M’s, Tootsie Rolls and candy canes to use as simple decorations. Children will have a blast decorating the gingerbread house and many of them will enjoy eating all the candy off the house throughout the rest of the month.
Christmas tree
You most likely have a Christmas tree somewhere in your home, but how about adding multiple trees to your home this year? Instead of just going with one big tree, pick some small trees to add to other places like the bathroom, bedrooms, entry way and even the kitchen table. You can find some small ornaments to decorate each tree and you can also get some small strands of Christmas lights to bring some holiday spirit into any room. Allow your child to get a small Christmas tree for his or her bedroom and give them the opportunity to decorate it with whatever they like. Your daughter may choose to paint the tree pink and add some Barbies to it and this will be a long-lasting memory for her. Let your kids be creative with their own trees by giving them the opportunity to pick out their own lights and ornaments to decorate their tree.
Christmas treats
While you may not think that Christmas treats are decorations, they are actually an important part of Christmas. Christmas treats are a wonderful decoration to add to your kitchen table or another area in the home. This year, bake some gingerbread men and place them in a dish on the entryway table. This will fill the entryway with a tasty smell and it’s always nice to receive a tasty treat when you open the door. The great part about making Christmas treats is that kids love to bake them. This is a great time for them to learn how to cook as you can have them read off the recipe and learn how to measure things. It’s also a fun way to involve in the cooking process, especially if they would like to give treats to their teachers and friends.
Ornaments
Spending time making ornaments with your children creates a fun Christmas memory. You can purchase some glass ornaments from the store and fill them up with paint and tinsel or you can make an ornament from scratch. Make stars for the tree using Popsicle sticks and thread. This is a simple Christmas craft for kids and it’s an easy way to decorate your Christmas tree with a little bit of personality.
