Container Soy Candles

There are many different ways to make soy candles. Here are some great ideas to get you started:

Container soy candles:

You can purchase all of the supplies you need at your local craft store. These easy to make candles, make a lovely gift.

What you will need:

• 1 pound of soy wax *see note below

 

• 1 Mason jar-or any other dry and clean container

 

 

• 1 ounce of fragrance oil  **see note below

 

 

• Wax dye- ***see note below

 

 

• 1 cotton wick-(Remember that the thicker the candle, the bigger wick you will need).

 

 

• Soy wax

 

*Note for crafters-

Soy wax can be found in block and in flake form. Many crafters find that the flake form is easier to use.

**Note for crafters–

It should be noted that using your own mix of fragrances is the secret, to make your own special scented soy candles. You can buy fragrances for your candles, at your craft store. On average you will need one 1 fl ounce of fragrance oil to scent 16 ounces of soy wax.

***Note for crafters-

Dyes for your soy candle come in many forms. There are dye blocks which made of wax, and can be melted with you soy wax. The other forms of dye are concentrated liquids, and dye chips.

Instructions for the project:

Begin making your candle by putting the soy wax in a pan, and slowly heating it on medium fire, until the soy wax is completely melted. Remove from heat, and add the fragrance oil. Stir the wax until all the fragrance oil is absorbed in the soy wax. It is at this point you can add the wax dye, if you want to color the wax. Carefully pour the melted soy wax, into the jar, and position the wick in the center. You can use a clothespin or pencil, to keep your wick in the center. When the wax has turned solid, trim the wick to 1/2 inch. Your candle is now ready to use.
