The other option is to make a water bottle holder that is worn around your child’s waist. If your child likes to wear a belt, this will be a great option. What you need to do is to cut two slits in the top of the water bottle holder that a belt can fit through. Run the belt through to be sure. If the belt fits, you will want to sew around the slit so that it doesn’t rip. You can use the button sewer on your sewing machine to reinforce these holes.
If you don’t have a button hole option you might want to make belt loops instead. To do this, you can rip two belt loops off an old pair of pants and fix them to the water bottle holder. You can do this by hand or using the sewing machine, whatever you like.
Now that you have either slits for the belt to pass through or belt loops to pass the belt through, try on the water bottle holder. Show your child how it can be moved around back to keep the water bottle out of the way or worn on their side for easy access.
This is just like a fanny pack but it holds water. Teach your child the importance of staying hydrated on hot summer days. You might want to make a water bottle holder for your self. The two of you can take a walk to the park or hike on a trail on some sweaty summer day and enjoy a cool drink from your homemade water bottle holders.
