Once your child has figured out how to use paints and create drawings that are somewhat recognizable, you can introduce a myriad of different country crafts that deal with painting. Two examples of how a simple painting project can turn into a country craft include painting a planter box or pot and creating plaques. If you grow potted plants or vegetables, why not add to the country feel by allowing your kids to decorate boring terracotta pots with scenes inspired by nature. An added bonus is that if you are trying to have your child participate in the growing of those plants, they will feel like they have more ownership in the project because they have left their mark on the pot. Plaques are simple to make and can be personalized for anyone. A simple piece of scrap wood cut down to the right size can be personalized with some vinyl lettering to make everything from a child’s name plate to a family motto.
